ABOUT US
We are a Montenegrin based charity focused on improving the lives of homeless and stray dogs and improving dog population control.
OUR HISTORY
Within months of moving to Montenegro from the UK we three founders of Prijatelji Pasa (Montenegrin for Friends of Dogs) – Fiona Sawney, Jane Murphy and Carrie Mathieson – found ourselves helping abandoned, hungry, sick or sad kittens, puppies, dogs and cats. We variously struggled along, finding ways to help, filling up spare time and space in our homes and minds with growing menageries, and making connections with other rescuers and local shelters. After several years of ad hoc fund raising, volunteering at the local dog shelter (“azil”) and pestering all our patient friends and family for help, we decided in 2015 to formalise our work into an NGO and to try and work towards more sustainable solutions. Thus Friends of Dogs/Prijatelji Pasa was born. We remain a very small group of volunteers, commited to helping to alleviate suffering where we can, and to lobbying for change. All our funds go directly towards helping animals or specific projects. We have no paid staff and share donated office space when needed. Between us we live with 13 dogs and 8 cats, alongside all the foster animals that we can squeeze in between.
